The Walking Dead is Coming Back to Comic Book Stores in a More Colorful Way

The Walking Dead was one of the most influential comic books ever made, showing everyone that indie stories can have just as much clout as Marvel and DC comics. It spawned a tv show that's still going to this day and usually tops the charts with trade paperback sales, which is why many of us were shocked when Robert Kirkman and Charlie Adlard decided to end the series last year with #193.

Well, Image Comics has decided to bring the series back with a twist as The Walking Dead Deluxe Color Editions were announced. It will launch on October 7 and move to a twice a month schedule starting November so fans can start their collecting right away. Colorist Dave McCraig will be handling the colors and as some of the images below show, he really gives these comics a new lease on life.

Each issue of The Walking Dead Deluxe will also come with a section called The Cutting Room Floor, which features some of Kirkman's handwritten plots and his commentary on some of the storylines he didn't use. Each issue will also come with variant covers from a number of great artists, who will offer their own take on this scary universe.

As of this writing, Image Comics and Skybound do not have plans to collect The Walking Dead Deluxe into trade paperbacks, at least right now. This could be a way to encourage fans to go and visit their comic book shops safely, which has to be applauded.
