The Suicide Squad Killed [SPOILERS] In Original 'Darker' Ending

James Gunn warned us right from the start that there will be a lot of deaths in The Suicide Squad. The promotions of the DC Extended Universe flick pretty much reminded us that not all of the members of Task Force X will make it all the way to the end.

That's exactly what we got in The Suicide Squad but Gunn has revealed that there was an even darker version of the film. The filmmaker admitted to originally killing off a beloved character and it would have been more devastating for audiences.

There is a good reason why Task Force X called themselves The Suicide Squad. Going on a mission meant certain death and at some point, they probably don't expect to get home alive.

But was there ever a chance that the big-name characters like Harley Quinn or Bloodsport were in danger of biting the dust? Gunn told Variety that he never considered it although "there was a change" for one lovable character.

"The original ending that I pitched, one main character died and one main character did not die. And the main character who died was was Ratcatcher 2. She was so sweet, I just felt like it was just too dark," Gunn said.

Gunn pretty much explained that this was the reason why Polka Dot Man was chosen instead since he just couldn't kill Ratcatcher 2.

The death of Ratcatcher 2 would have been devastating considering that she has a tragic backstory. In addition to that, she has proven to be the most endearing character that fans are gushing about. With that in mind, it was a good call for Gunn to decide not to kill Daniela Melchior's character off in the film.

The Suicide Squad is now screening in theaters and on HBO Max.
