The Suicide Squad: James Gunn Hopes to Start Revealing Things 'Very Soon'

With Joker set to come out in October and Birds of Prey in February, DC is busy focusing all the promotion on those films. The Suicide Squad is also set to start production soon, and director James Gunn is teasing on Twitter that he's hoping we can get our first look at the movie any day now.

This was his reply when a fan asked him about The Suicide Squad:

For now it seems unclear on what The Suicide Squad is going to be in relation to the first movie. Gunn has been adamant that his film isn't going to be a sequel, yet the movie features a lot of the original actors from Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn) to Viola Davis (Amanda Waller). If that was the case, I would suspect this to be a prequel, but that would just ruin all the exposition we got in the first film. I preferred if we just got an established Task Force X and move forward from there.

With production starting soon, Gunn will probably give us the first looks for The Suicide Squad himself. I'd rather our first look at the characters come from the official source as compared to some low-res set photos. Even Birds of Prey released a costume test before all the sneaky pics started leaking out online.

Though Gunn is teasing first looks soon, I'm imagining that we'll get our first teasers sometime late 2020. The movie is set to come out in the latter half of 2021, so I wouldn't expect any pre-mature promotional material within the year.

Catch The Suicide Squad when it hits theaters Aug. 6, 2021. You can catch Harley Quinn in Birds of Prey which comes out Feb. 7, 2020.
