Fans have long pitted Marvel and DC against each other but the truth is, there's no bad blood between the two comic book giants whether fans would like to accept it or not. In fact, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige is apparently behind James Gunn's surprising jump to the DC Extended Universe to direct The Suicide Squad which a lot of people assume will be DC's version of his Marvel Cinematic Universe blockbuster Guardians of the Galaxy.
In a special Empire Magazine feature, Gunn opened up about how supportive the Marvel Studios patriarch has been with his upcoming DC venture. And being a true blue comic book junkie himself, Feige apparently had one request to Gunn and that is to make The Suicide Squad a huge success. Gunn shared: "Please, please make a good movie. Just… make a great movie."
The GOTG director also revealed that Feige knows a thing or two about his film, including its main baddie and that only goes to show how much he trusts the man. "Kevin knew who all those characters were for months before we revealed them at FanDome. He still knows who the villain is. I think he's pretty trustworthy with his NDA!"
It's great to know how Feige doesn't only think about his company's triumph, he's also pushing for the growth and success of other nerd franchises. Of course, that's a huge win for the entire comic book community and that right there proves just how much of a class act Marvel Studios' head truly is. Now, considering James Gunn's impressive film resume, Feige can rest assured that he won't be disappointed with what Gunn has in store for us and I'm pretty positive he'll blow all of us away.
That being said, The Suicide Squad hits cinemas in 2021.
