The Simpsons Tapped Out Tree House of Horror XXVII Update Has Arrived

Halloween is just around the corner, but Electronic Arts has already released a new update for The Simpsons Tapped Out.

For this particular update, Lisa is once again taking the major role as the director of the new horror show in Springfield.

Long-time players of the game will already know that events like this are divided into three Acts even though the entire event is set to end on Nov. 15. Make sure you have Lisa and Homer free so you can jumpstart the short quests before diving into the hours-long ones.

Essentially, the theme now are monsters. Last year, for those who have already been playing, had been mostly about horror tales told around the campfire and sea monsters surfacing to be tapped. This time, what you'll be tapping are hounds that breathe a green flame, a pretty nice shout-out perhaps to the Hound of the Baskervilles?

The activities for The Simpsons Tapped Out Treehouse of Horror 2016 event can be divided into four parts, some of which are borrowing from previous events. The staple Act prizes are still there. These include Town Square, Bell Tower, Burns Family Crypt, Count Burns' Castle, Space Marshmallow and two small Obol packs. Remember, the currency for the Act prizes are film strips.

There's also the crafting section, another staple, but this time following the recently concluded major event, the Sci-Fi update. Crafting will consist of unlocking rewards as you craft using the Coins currency. The good thing about this is that leveling up the Construction Yard is that you need to craft items, the amount of which already contributes to the required level up. Bad news for minimalist Springfield designers is that you will have to buy earlier items to level up.

Finally, there's the Monster Actors Guild MAG, which also rolls out prizes. MAG Points can be earned in different ways, including unlocking Act prizes, buying premium items, and crafting a few of the items.

Players can also expect some monster battling, similar to the Superhero update or last year's own Halloween update. Those snake-like monsters are insane—and the animation is pretty neat, too.

It's also good to see that EA has brought back the previous mechanic of using other characters to collect the currency event. Granted, newbie players may have a harder time, given that premium characters can be an advantage.

Personally, I like the new mechanic. there are more ways to win prizes, and in effect, there are more prizes up for grabs. The Monster Actors Guild prizes are mostly films and job unlocks, but there are some medieval gates scattered along the way.

The Simpsons Tapped Out has been one of my regular games. Fighting off monsters is a nice touch. And the craftable items and prizes are not too shabby either. Just a tip for premium buyers—don't spend all your donuts in one go (unless you actually can). Because Christmas is right around the corner, and we can expect some ho-ho-ho event for sure.

The new update is already out for both Apple and Android devices via the iTunes and Google Play Store.
