The upcoming Netflix adaptation of the best-selling classic graphic novel The Sandman will be rated TV-MA. The original collection of stories was written between 1989 and 1996 by Hugo and Nebula award-winning author Neil Gaiman and published by DC Comics. The TV show is being produced by Gaiman, David Goyer, and Allan Heinberg and is set to premiere later this year.

The Sandman: Language, Sex, and Violence

CBR has now disclosed that due to language, sex, and violence, the highly anticipated Netflix TV series' rating has been confirmed as TV-MA. When you click on the title on the streaming platform's website, the rating information is also displayed on the title page for The Sandman. It provides further specifics for the rating, stating that the content will also include suicide, self-harm, and smoking.

Over the last few decades, there have been numerous attempts to adapt The Sandman, all of which have failed or lingered in development hell for one reason or another. Part of the difficulty is probably undoubtedly the project's absurd complexity, which spans 75 issues and 10 volumes, blending far-flung one-off stories with deeply layered serialized narratives.

Goyer, the writer behind Blade, was tied to a film adaptation starring Joseph Gorden-Levitt as Morpheus in the early 2010s. However, due to writing issues, Goyer eventually urged Warner Bros. to abandon the picture and instead release The Sandman as a streaming program.

What is The Sandman All About?

The Sandman is said to be centered on the character of Dream, a strong being also known as Morpheus, the King of Dreams, and, most memorably, Sandman. It stars Tom Sturridge as the titular figure, as well as Gwendoline Christie as Lucifer, Boyd Holbrook as The Corinthian, and Kirby Howell-Baptiste as Death.

Supposedly, the plot will begin with Dream being kidnapped by the Order of Ancient Mysteries and then fleeing as he attempts to restore order to his Dreaming Kingdom. There are seven Endless Creatures, each of whom oversees a separate section of existence, and Dream is known as one of these beings.

Many unsuccessful attempts to adapt Gaiman's legendary work have been undertaken over the years, and the Netflix version of The Sandman has been long-awaited by fans everywhere.
