The Rock Gives Update on Black Adam; Teases Cameos

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson has been attached to play Black Adam for the DCEU, but he won't be making his debut in the upcoming Shazam! movie. Instead, Black Adam is set to have his own film, and The Rock gives us an update on the status of his DCEU standalone.

Talking to Film Starts, Johnson explains:

"With Black Adam, I don't think we're going to start early next year… Early next year right now it looks like I'm going to be shooting Jumanji, and then after that, if everything goes well I'll shoot a movie called Red Notice with Rawson Thurber again, with Gal Gadot, and another actor yet to be named. But Black Adam possibly at the end of next year. It's coming along great, the script is coming along great we're very happy with it."

For now, the only confirmed films for DCEU's 2019 slate are Shazam!, and Wonder Woman 1984. It's possible that a third movie could be announced as well, but seeing as the DCEU is still trying to get on its feet after Justice League, it's possible that we could only be getting two films for 2019.

As for cameos in Black Adam, Johnson teases:

"Without giving anything away, there MIGHT be maybe a cameo or two of some of the other DC superheroes… We'll see. That's been the beauty of Black Adam as we've been developing it is that we could make a movie that just stood on its own too as well, but that's also the beauty of those universes coming together at DC."

Hopefully we get a more solid update come SDCC 2018, but I have my fingers crossed that the Rock makes a small appearance as Adam in next year's Shazam!. After all, Adam is sort of tied to Billy Batson's origin, and I could imagine him being mentioned by the Wizard once he decides to bestow his powers to Batson.

Catch Shazam! in theaters April 5, 2019.
