Sony's pretty excited to get a Jumanji sequel on the way because it looks like the follow-up to the studio's commercially successful Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle just got its official release date today.

Not long after announcing that Jumanji 2 was officially on track, Welcome to the Jungle star Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson just took to social media today, announcing the film's official premiere date. Posting on Instagram, the action star told fans that he's pretty pumped up because Sony is "officially planting our Jumaji flag on December 13, 2019."

Not only will the film bring a new adventure to those who loved Sony's Jumanji reboot, it's going to bring a new set of faces as well.

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle was a surprise hit when it came out back in December last year. Not only did the film become Sony's highest grossing film of the year, raking in a global total of $962 million. It also passed Spider-Man at the domestic box office, becoming the studio's highest grossing film in the North American market.

But that's not all. The film which released a few weeks before Star Wars: The Last Jedi held its ground against the gigantic Star Wars movie, finishing second at the box office behind The Force Awakens sequel.

With a December 13 release date, it looks like Jumanji2 will be competing with Star Wars again, though this time we won't be surprised if it holds its ground.
