Fans of the horror-thriller-supernatural genre are always keen on knowing Stephen King's thoughts about a certain TV show or movie -- and for a good reason. After all, he ain't one of the Masters of Horror for nothing. Now, a show that's got the acclaimed author's approval is Prime Video's The Rig, whose first episode debuted on the platform on Jan. 6.

When the show first aired, critics and viewers gave it varying ratings; some praised its supernatural setting and mood, while others thought it was too formulaic.

King's approval was short but enough to make one go and check the show out.

The Rig Wins Stephen King's Approval

The eco-horror author was retweeting a comment from author Bev Vincent who described The Rig as an "Eco-horror on an oil rig. The Earth Strikes Back" and compared it to Stephen Markley's The Deluge.

On Twitter, King simply wrote: "I liked it very much."

Emily Hampshire, Iain Glen, Martin Compston, and Mark Bonnar are among the cast members of the recently released Prime Video series, which centers on workers on an oil rig in the midst of the North Sea. However, once the fog clears, their connection to the outside world is cut off, and strange things start to happen.

Stephen King's Comment Could Do Wonders for The Rig

While The Rig has divided the audience and gotten mixed reviews, King's support may provide the show with the boost it needs to achieve higher ratings and viewership statistics. The author is not afraid to promote movies and television shows that he appreciates, which can help the title and raise viewer interest.

Even though a program generally garnered positive reviews from critics, in the streaming era, it is common for it to be cancelled after one season if it does not do well. Positive word-of-mouth is the best approach to increase a show's chances of boosting its viewership and raising the likelihood that it will be renewed when it doesn't receive a significant marketing campaign.

As of now, no news about a renewal for The Rig has come to light. However, word-of-mouth from King may improve its renewal status if it satisfies the streamer's standards.
