The Real Reason Why Ben Affleck Quit The Batman’s Director Seat

It came as a surprise to DC fans when Justice League star Ben Affleck decided to step down from the director's seat for The Batman to focus on his role as The Dark Knight. Last month, in the midst of a schedule releasing feature film Live By Night, Affleck had assured fans that he would direct the film and that would be great.

Last week Kevin Smith weighed in on Affleck's move saying that the Hollywood star and director wastoo scared to risk a film that wouldn't possibly surpass Chris Nolan's The Dark Knight. Now, a new theory from Screen Rant suggests that Affleck may have been more disinterested in the role than scared.

According to the publication, though Affleck took on the role of the Caped Crusader, the Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice star was never into the idea of directing his own superhero film. A year before The Batman had been announced, DC director Zack Snyder admitted that he had to try to convince Affleck to do it – the Hollywood star hadn't come to want the film on his own.

He had always expressed his reservations in directing the film as well, saying time and time again that he was considering the part based on "finding a good script."

Weeks before stepping down from the director's seat, Affleck had also admitted that:

"Superhero movies get the level of attention that is nothing like any film I've done. You cast the 14th lead in these movies and the Internet goes crazy. I understand and embrace that. That's part of the pressure that comes with doing it. That's why I am not going to do it, unless I really feel confident about it. But when that day comes, should that day come, I'm sure that's going to be the most pressure, the most stress I have ever experienced in my professional life. There's no doubt."

While some think that Affleck's just to scared to risk his good name on what might be another DC flop, it seems like the Hollywood actor might have never been interested in directing a superhero blockbuster at all. Which is a shame - many were excited to see how far Affleck could take the DCEU. Oh well. Let's wait for the next director to come along.
