When pictures of Ben Barnes' version of Jigsaw was first unveiled for The Punisher season 2 fans were disappointed, feeling that the character's scars didn't warrant the persona change. Those that have seen the second trailer know that these scars are more mental, which has gotten a mixed reaction from the fanbase, though actor Ben Barnes wholeheartedly supports the move.
Sharing a NatGeo article about PTSD and NBIs, Barnes feels that his character's Jigsaw mask is similar to how soldiers use art to describe their mental health. It's an interesting comparison and one that should get fans talking. At the least, it's an interesting interpretation of the character that differs from the comics, which isn't the worst thing ever.
There will probably be a section of fans who want a more scarred face, similar to the one we've seen in Punisher: Warzone, though you have to give the series props for being different while still being faithful to the theme of scars. It's a controversial change but one that we're all hoping pays off, especially since this might be the final season of The Punisher.
Arriving January 18 on Netflix, The Punisher Season 2 stars Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle, Ben Barnes as Billy Russo, Amber Rose Revah as Dinah Madani, Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, Jason R. Moore as Curtis Hoyle, Josh Stewart as John Pilgrim, Floriana Lima as Krista Dumont and Giorgia Whigham as Amy Bendix.
