The Orville Picked Up For A Second Season

It looks like 2017 is the year for Trek; with Star Trek: Discovery recently getting picked up for a second season, news has it that Seth MacFarlane's more comedic take on the genre—The Orville—is getting renewed for a second season as well.

Here's the announcement:

Fox president Michael Thorn also had this to say about the show (via ScreenRant):

"Once again Seth has struck a powerful chord with viewers. He has delivered a series full of optimism, drama and his trademark humor. We want to thank him and the rest of the talented cast, as well as the producers and crew, for an incredible first season. We can't wait to see where The Orville travels in the second."

Though a lot of fans were expecting The Orville to be full of MacFarlane's trademark humor, the show has surprisingly been tame, and some people have criticized it for not having "figured out what it was" yet. No doubt, the characters are still likeable, and MacFarlane's Captain Ed is charmingly endearing.

For fans of the older Trek shows, I think The Orville is something that will satisfy their pallets if Discovery isn't to their liking. The show gives us serious episodes in the vein of the original series, and the humor doesn't overtly take over the central themes.

Catch The Orville on Fox.
