The Old Guard Star Charlize Theron Reveals Why She was Drawn to Andy in Netflix Film

We're loving the idea that Charlize Theron is finally doing a comic book movie and that she's playing a powerful immortal. But why did the Mad Max: Fury Road star choose to work on The Old Guard above other films? Theron has just admitted that she was drawn to her character in the upcoming Netflix movie.

Theron recently spoke to Empire where she discussed how she prepared for her role as Andromache of Scythia. Interestingly, the Aeon Flux star revealed that she decided to read the graphic novel first then became drawn to the character.

"My initial reaction when I read the Old Guard graphic novel was that I felt there was something very grounded in Andy. That was the thing that excited me: despite the concept, she felt real, and not ‘fantasy'," Theron said. Not surprisingly, this inspired her to portray the character as someone who has gone through so much.

"I tried to bring a genuine exhaustion to her, and not get bogged down in the idea that she's lived thousands of years, she's seen it all, and she knows every kind of martial art there is," Theron said.

There is little doubt that being immortal can be exciting but it is also tiring. It's great to know that Theron put in a lot of thought into how Andy should be portrayed and can't wait to see her in action.

The Old Guard will premiere on Netflix on July 10.
