The New Mutants might not be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, however, the X-Men spinoff was supposed to offer a post-credits scene just like a Marvel movie would. Unfortunately, it seems like the extra scene in the Movie was cut because of Disney's deal with 21st Century Fox.
Speaking in an interview with Entertainment Weekly to help promote his highly anticipated X-Men horror movie, The New Mutants director Josh Boone decided to open up about extra footage that was supposed to play after the end credits sequence of the movie.
According to the director, The New Mutants original post-credits sequence was supposed to introduce Zorro star Antonio Banderas as Emmanuel de Costa, the father of Roberto (Henry Zaga), a mutant otherwise knwn as Sunspot. Unfortunately, Disney's arrangement with Fox has forced the movie to drop the scene.
"It was intentional that we didn't shoot it," Boone explained, "because Marvel owns X-Men now and is going to do their own thing, there was no reason to go shoot it."
The end credits sequence was probably supposed to build something larger out of The New Mutants. Unfortunately, now that Fox is part of the Disney conglomerate, Boone can't really proceed with whatever he plans for the X-Men.
The mutants now belong to Marvel, and everyone's eager to see the X-Men, Fantastic Four, Deadpool, and all of Fox's other mutant characters, make their way into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
