The New Mutants Producer on When it Takes Place in the X-Men Timeline

The New Mutants looks to be the final X-Men film from 20th Century F--sorry, 20th Century Studios (ugh). While there are some rumors that this movie could end up in the MCU, there hasn't been anything official yet so most fans are assuming this is the final Fox-Men film we'll be seeing. Karen Rosenfelt, the producer for this long-dormant film, was asked when in the X-Men timeline this film will be taking place.

Rosenfelt actually has a pretty good answer, as she told Digital Spy that the movie is basically timeless, not taking place in the past or future. We'll get more into that in a bit but most of us are shocked that she didn't say "there's an X-Men timeline?" before scoffing and walking away. No joke, the X-Men timeline has been broken for YEARS.

"It's contemporary timeless. We don't define where we are, but it is today. It's contemporary. It's not way in the future and it's not in the past. I think it's safe to say. But again, what we're striving for, as they did with Deadpool, is what Fox and Simon [Kinberg] are doing with each of the franchises in the X-Men universe is making them all signature unique."

While the most recent X-Men movies have had a hard time placing themselves in a certain timeline, the uniqueness of films like Logan and Deadpool did alleviate a lot of the timeline issues we had. Hopefully, The New Mutants is good enough so that fans won't care about when in the timeline this takes place.

Also, if we're lucky, this could end up in the MCU. You never know….

The New Mutants is coming out on April 3.
