Set to end the era of Fox X-Men movies, The New Mutants will follow its own ensemble of young mutants as they discover their abilities whilst being held in an institution. It may be a standalone movie that'll introduce some new characters to the big screen, but it also has the opportunity to reference other popular mutants or characters as well; one of which was a scrapped sequence featuring a Deadpool character.

Speaking to ComicBook.com, director Josh Boone revealed that Colossus was going to make an appearance at one point in the film but didn't make the final cut. Anya Taylor-Joy's Ilyana Rasputin is known as Colossus' younger sister in the comics.

"I had early drafts. I had early drafts that had, we always loved, Knate and I loved the scene and Superman," he says. "There's Superman three, the one where he loses his powers and goes back to Smallville."

"Is that one where he saves the kid from the thing going through the grass? We definitely wrote one where Ilyana was in like a field in Russia that was being tilled," Boone continued. "And suddenly her brother comes in and you see all the armor come on him and stop the thing from running her over or whatever."

Boone says they had stuff like that in earlier drafts but got "further away from a budget standpoint" amongst other reasons. "Which is suddenly Ilyana rescued, and is Colossus' sister," he adds.

The director points out that Magik is still Colossus' sister in the film, it's just that a cameo from the character, something that fans would have enjoyed seeing, isn't going to happen just yet.

The New Mutants is currently set for release on August 28.
