The Matrix 5: Keanu Reeves Eager to Return for Possible Sequel

There is little doubt that The Matrix Resurrections has opened up the possibility of more projects for the franchise in the future. But can we expect Keanu Reeves to return as Neo in The Matrix 5? The John Wick 4 actor has just admitted he is eager to reprise the role but with a catch.

It's no secret that Keanu Reeves was not expecting to be back as Neo after the events in The Matrix Revolutions. After all, the character had already been killed off in the third movie. However, things changed with The Matrix Resurrections as Neo is miraculously brought back along with Trinity.

So does this mean that we'll be seeing more of Neo and Trinity after Resurrections? Reeves was quick to point out that director Lana Wachowski has no interest in working on The Matrix 5.

"I don’t believe so," he told Empire Magazine. "If I had to cast a ballot- No, not a ballot, a vote. I would say that Lana would not do another Matrix."

Wachowski herself has already stated that she will not be returning to work on a fifth Matrix film. But then again, she and sister Lily have said the same thing in the past and we still got The Matrix Resurrections. So what if Lana eventually changes her mind and announces The Matrix 5? Reeves confessed that "he's in" as long as the original director wants to do it.

Of course, there's the possibility that Warner Bros. might pursue more Matrix movies in the future without the Wachowskis. On the other hand, the franchise itself is rooted in the Wachowskis' story and forcing a sequel might not be a great idea. Nevertheless, we'll be waiting for an update from Reeves and the Wachowskis in the future.

The Matrix Resurrections is still screening in theaters and on HBO Max.
