The Wachowskis had made their name with the Matrix franchise, and they're set to make a fourth film with Michael B. Jordan as the lead. Original stars Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss will also be attached to the movie, and Reeves has confirmed that he's already read the script.

Talking to Entertainment Tonight, Reeves didn't go into much detail, but he did say that he was "absolutely" excited to be working on the franchise again. He also goes on to say that the script is "very ambitious, as it should be."

We don't know what kind of plot this fourth Matrix movie will have, but I have a feeling it's going to be a reboot/sequel, in the sense that it will focus on new characters, but have appearances from franchise vets. With the last two Matrix films not really critical darlings, I'm guessing they're going to treat this next film as a direct sequel to the first one, much like what they did with Jurassic World, and kind of the same thing with the upcoming Terminator: Dark Fate (a supposed follow-up of T2).

What I think is interesting is that the film will have a black actor like Jordan in the lead. It was said that Will Smith was originally wanted for the role of Neo, but after Smith declined, Reeves was then cast; it kind of feels like Jordan is the Wachowski's second jab at giving us a "black Neo", but then again, we don't know what this film is about yet.

No specific release date has been announced for the fourth Matrix movie, but we should expect it to hit theaters sometime in 2022.
