There is little doubt that the delay of Wonder Woman 1984's release had a domino effect on the other Warner Bros. movies. It has already been confirmed that Dune would be pushed back to premiere in late 2021, which means that The Batman is also getting a later release date. However, there's one project that is actually getting an earlier premiere. It has been revealed that The Matrix 4 has been moved up four months to hit theaters in 2021.
It's no secret that The Matrix 4 was supposed to premiere in 2021.The sequel was already in production earlier this year and was well on its way for a summer release in 2021. Unfortunately, filming was put on hold due to COVID-19 which also led to Warner Bros. pushing the premiere date to 2022.
Interestingly, the studio appears to be more optimistic about The Matrix 4 despite moving the other major films back. It has been confirmed that the Keanu Reeves-led sequel has been given an earlier release date on December 22, 2021. That's a little over four months ahead from its previous schedule on April 1, 2022.
We're not sure why Warner Bros. has moved The Matrix 4 up instead of giving the December premiere date to The Batman, which is now getting delayed after its original schedule was taken by Dune. However, some believe that it might have to do with the Lana Wachowski film being a sure blockbuster compared to the Robert Pattinson movie.
The Matrix 4 is now scheduled for release on December 22, 2021.
