The Mandalorian Star Werner Herzog Still Can't Stop Talking About Working with Baby Yoda

It's no secret that the cast and crew of The Mandalorian loved working with Baby Yoda although the tiny character was simply a puppet. However, that didn't stop Werner Herzog from trying to direct his little co-star when they had a scene together. The filmmaker has once again discussed what it was like to work with The Child on the Star Wars show's first season and he revealed why he was compelled to give it directions.

Herzog recently joined Clive Oppenheimer in Variety's virtual discussion of their film Fireball: Visitors From Darker Worlds. However, the director couldn't help but talk about working with Baby Yoda on the first season of The Mandalorian. At one point, Herzog shared why he felt the need to direct The Child during their scene together.

"I tried to tell the humans who couldn't see exactly what I saw. And I said, ‘here's the light. Our torchlight is going right in its eyes. It should close its eyes,' and, of course, bang — they closed [Baby Yoda's] eyes," Herzog said.

It's amazing what a filmmaker can see that other people simply could not. Needless to say, it made the scene work perfectly in the first season.

Herzog may not be returning as The Client this year since the character has already been killed off in the first season. However, fans can look forward to seeing more of Baby Yoda in The Mandalorian Season 2, which premieres on Disney+ on October 31.
