I think we can safely say that Gina Carano's days in the Star Wars Universe were numbered the very moment her social media activity caught the attention of mainstream media. Of course, most of you are aware that Carano's controversial stance regarding socio-political issues over the past year had a detrimental effect on her career over at Lucasfilm. Earlier this year, Disney finally pulled the trigger and ousted the former mixed martial arts fighter from the Star Wars franchise.

Shockingly enough, we never heard from Carano's co-stars who remained silent all these months regarding the issue. Now, The Mandalorian Season 1 star Emily Swallow is finally breaking her silence on Gina's newsmaking firing from the show. Appearing at the DragonCon 2021 (via The Direct), the Armorer actress had nothing but kind things to say about her colleague.

Swallow explains: "All I can say is that Gina, and working with her personally, what impressed me about her from the beginning is that she is so interested in other peoples' opinions, and is so welcoming of other peoples' opinions. She wants to have a genuine dialogue. She's just like that in her day-to-day life. On set, she's more curious about other people. She's very giving, she's very gracious."

According to the actress, she didn't know exactly what went down between Carano and Disney but during the latter part of her panel interview, Swallow seemingly blamed cancel culture for the fate Carano suffered. "I am thoroughly baffled by a lot of what we're dealing with right now with cancel culture and I think that it's... oh man. There's so many layers to it that are important to look at, but I think that the hatred that comes into it and when people start refusing to listen to the other side, no matter which side they're on, I think that that's really dangerous. One of the things that is so beautiful about our country is we have free speech. We can hear things that we don't like, and we can disagree, and that's fine."

I do believe in the power of free speech but I don't think people, especially influential figures like Gina Carano should abuse it and use it to spread misinformation and cause mayhem online. While I don't want to downplay her stance regarding several issues, Carano should've been more responsible in using the platform instead of causing division amongst fans. But hey, it is what it is.
