The first episode of The Mandalorian had introduced us to Omar Abtahi's Dr. Pershing, and it's revealed that he (and Werner Herzog) had hired the Mando to retrieve a baby of Yoda's species. What's interesting is, a detail on his uniform could hint at his intention with the youngling.
As it turns out, Pershing has the Kaminoan symbol of a clone on his uniform:
Seeing that it's a symbol worn by the clones, I'm guessing that Pershing is actually a clone himself, but it's very possible that he could be a cloner.
In the lore, Yoda's species is still unknown, and it's said that his people are incredibly rare. The only other character that's the same species as Yoda is Yaddle, and we never really got to find out where she ended up after Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. Legends has her sacrificing her life 26 BBY, but we don't know what her official status is in the current canon.
So what could Dr. Pershing want with this baby Yoda? It's possible that he wants to clone the species. After all, it's rare, and if Jurassic Park has taught us anything, cloning could save the species from extinction. Then again, with Pershing working with the Empire, it's possible that he could have less than noble intentions. Maybe he wants to study it for its Midi-chlorian count. Maybe he wants to find the secret to its longevity. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
