The Star Wars fate of The Mandalorian character Cara Dune has been shrouded by mystery over the last couple of months following Gina Carano's shocking firing from Lucasfilm earlier this year. Now, with Season 3 set to begin production soon, it would be safe to assume that the people behind the show are under a lot of pressure to come up with something. It'll also be interesting to see how Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni will handle the entire Cara Dune situation.

For now, they have two options — one is to write Cara Dune off which is easier said than done while the other is to just recast the character. Speaking of potential recasting, fans have been clamoring for television icon and Xena: Warrior Princess actress Lucy Lawless to become part of the MandoVerse and officially replace Carano as Cara Dune.

However, Lawless doesn't seem interested in taking on the character and she actually believes that the fan campaign may have been responsible for her negotiations with Lucasfilm falling through. Speaking with Metro, the New Zealand actress shared: "It might have hurt me in some way because then they couldn't hire me because it would seem to be pandering to…"

She continued: "I'm just guessing here, I don't know anything, but in some ways, it can be unhelpful, because if they pander to this fan group, then how are you going to pander to every other fan group, do you know what I mean?"

Whether or not the fan clamor for Lucy to replace Gina in the MandoVerse actually hurt her chances of appearing in a Star Wars project still remains to be seen. Of course, we don't know much about her previous negotiations with Lucasfilm but I gotta say, she definitely has a place in a galaxy far, far away and when you think about it, it doesn't have to be in The Mandalorian. Hopefully, we'll still get to see her make her Star Wars debut in the near future.

The Mandalorian Season 3 is expected to begin filming soon.
