One of the biggest questions Star Wars fans had heading into The Mandalorian Season 3 is Cara Dune's true status. The character, played by Gina Carano since the first season has been a fixture on the show and her popularity even warranted her a standalone series. However, Carano's social media controversies ultimately led to her getting fired by Disney and for the longest time, Cara's status has remained shrouded in mystery.

Over the last couple of years, there have been conflicting reports surrounding her future in the MandoVerse, with some claiming she's getting written off completely while other rumors suggest that Lucasfilm is going the recast route, with Lucy Lawless even being speculated to be her replacement at one point.

Now, it appears that the franchise has left the door wide open for a potential return from the beloved character. In the first episode of The Mandalorian Season 3 titled "Chapter 17: The Apostate", Greef Karga explains to Din Djarin that after turning Moff Gideon over, Dune was recruited by the special forces, and as hard as it is to believe, that's the only time Dune was ever mentioned in the episode.

As it stands, we still don't know if Cara's presence will actually be felt throughout Season 3 but it appears that Lucasfilm still has plans set in stone for her. Now, the obvious move is for them to find a new actress to play the character and if you're among the fans hoping to see Carano back in the MandoVerse, we don't think that's ever happening, especially considering there's a ton of animosity between her and Disney.

Chapter 17 of The Mandalorian is now streaming on Disney+
