Star Wars fans are so caught up with The Mandalorian's latest trailer that it left many of them a little sidetracked regarding the future of one specific character who's been vital to the show since the beginning. We're talking about Cara Dune whose status in the MandoVerse still remains unclear.

Following Gina Carano's jaw-dropping and unceremonious ousting from Disney in early 2021 due to her controversy-stirring social media activity, the House of Mouse has yet to officially confirm whether or not she'll get recast in future installments of The Mandalorian, as well as other spinoff series like Rangers of the New Republic which was supposedly going to be led by her.

Now, a new rumor suggests that Cara Dune could still make her return to the MandoVerse. According to the latest scoop from Giant Freakin Robot, Lucasfilm is now open to the possibility of casting a new actress for the part which is surprising, especially considering Disney previously stated that they're "retiring" the character.

The outlet didn't disclose other details about Carano's potential replacement, other than Lucasfilm is said to be looking for someone who's also physically imposing so I guess we'll just have to wait and see how everything plays out. Of course, from a creative and narrative standpoint, Cara Dune staying in the MandoVerse makes the most logical sense and she's always been presented as a pivotal character in The Mandalorian.

Personally, I'd love to see Lucasfilm pull the trigger and recast the character instead of just writing her off. Cara Dune is easily one of those characters who has untapped potential and it would be a shame if they let go of her completely.

The Mandalorian Season 3 premieres March 1st only on Disney+.
