The Little Mermaid: What Halle Bailey Could Look Like as Ariel

Disney had just cast their latest princess with Halle Bailey attached to play Ariel in The Little Mermaid. We don't have any official look of Hailey's Ariel yet, but the internet is already pouring in the fan art of what she could look like in character.

Check her out:

Besides Bailey, the film has also cast Jacob Tremblay (Room) as Ariel's best friend Flounder. The movie also decided to give the seagull Scuttle a gender switch, and the character is now being voiced by Awkwafina (Ocean's 8). While a lot of people were kind of irked that they're changing Scuttle, you have to realize that most of the relevant woman parts in the movie all belong to men. Besides Ursula and Ariel's forgettable sisters, there really isn't a significant female character in the film; hence the gender change with Scuttle.

While the Disney live-action remakes were never really critical darlings, they do make a lot of bank in the box office, and that's why Disney keeps pumping them out. Aladdin has already made more than half a billion, and no doubt a lot of people are going to see The Lion King when it hits theaters later this month.

If they were to make live-action remakes though, I suggest they go with films like Atlantis: The Lost Empire and Treasure Planet.

No release date has been set for The Little Mermaid yet, but at this level, I think we could expect it to hit theaters sometime in 2021.
