In just a couple of weeks, the long-awaited live-action remake of the Disney animated classic The Little Mermaid will be out in theaters. A lot of fans are looking forward to seeing the new take on the iconic story especially with singer Halle Bailey as the lead.
There is no doubt that playing Ariel in the live-action remake will be a major breakthrough for Bailey and there are big shoes (or fin in this case) to fill since she has become one of the most iconic characters in the Disney library.
Fortunately, Bailey already has the support from the original voice actress of Ariel, Jodi Benson, who has publicly complimented her on various occasions including in the recent world premiere where the two actresses were caught having a sweet interaction.
In a recent interview with Los Angeles Times, Bailey discussed the heartwarming support and advice that she received from Benson while making the film where she also revealed that the actress will have a special cameo appearance in a scene set on land.
"She told me how proud she was of me and how I’m handling everything, and encouraged me to just go for it," the actress said regarding Benson.
"I appreciate her for being so warm and welcoming to me because she’s the GOAT, and it was important to me to get her stamp of approval."
It is certainly great to hear that Benson was very supportive of Bailey during the whole process of making the film and, suffice to say, it was also a passing the baton moment for the two as the latter is now the Ariel for this new generation.
Now, fans can look forward to Benson's cameo in the film and it is curious to see whether the two Ariel actresses will interact during the scene.
