The Last Jedi Director Responds to Taika Waititi’s New Star Wars Movie Announcement

Earlier this week, Lucasfilm decided to give Star Wars fans news to celebrate by announcing Taika Waititi's new Star Wars movie. The fanbase went wild. Waititi's earned his place as Hollywood's darling with films like Thor: Ragnarok and the Oscar-nominated comedy-drama, Jojo Rabbit. Everyone's eager to see what the Kiwi director might bring to the galaxy far, far away.

Now, it looks like Star Wars: The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson has decided to share his thoughts about Lucasfilm's decision to hire Waititi, and it looks like the filmmaker's just as excited as any Star Wars fan.

Taking to Twitter, the director shared the Star Wars announcement, saying that he's more than excited to see what might come out of Lucasfilm's new projects now that Waititi's spearheading a new film and Russian Doll director Leslye Headland is developing a new Star Wars series.

"I have NO idea what kind of SW will come out of Taika and Krysty's and Leslye's brains if I tried to guess I'd be wrong, and that is the most exciting thing I can imagine," the director wrote on his post.

While news about Headland's new Star Wars series has been running up and down the mill for quite some time now, Lucasfilm decided to officially announce the project on May the Fourth. There isn't that much news about the series yet, but word has it that the show is going to focus on a female lead.

Waititi's movie and Headland's series has yet to receive their respective release dates, but we'll update fans as soon as we get word.
