Mantis has always been a pivotal part of the group since they met her in Volume 2 and she is always a team-player, game for anything, even facing the army of Thanos in Endgame. However, she carries with her a big secret and it is finally revealed in The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special.

The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special: What is Mantis' Big Secret?
The Guardians of the Galaxy met Mantis who was then employed by Ego, father of Peter Quill, and she has the ability to manipulate anyone's emotions through a period of time. Through this, Ego used her to get him to sleep because her empathic abilities helped him sleep.
See, Ego is quite a monstrous father, and he wouldn't have won the "Father of the Year," not even for a day, and it is undisputable that Yondu is more of a father to Peter Quill than Ego could ever be. Mantis gets freed by the Guardians from Ego and she has been with them ever since.
Surprisingly, Mantis carries a huge secret and only Drax knows about it in The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special. She and Drax went through all the trouble to go to Earth and give Peter Quill the best Christmas present they could think of.
While Mantis couldn't admit it at first, in the end of The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, she reveals to Peter Quill her big secret: they are half-siblings!

It turns out Mantis' father is also Ego, the very reason how Ego got her in the first place. Even when Mantis thought it would only remind Peter about their horrible father, when Peter Quill found out about it, he tells Mantis that having a sister is the best Christmas gift he could ever have.
As many have known, Peter Quill didn't have a childhood the same as other kids, and he was abducted from Earth by Yondu through the orders of Ego but thankfully, Yondu never turned him over to Ego. When Yondu died and when he lost Gamora, the only thing closest to family for Peter is the Guardians.
Having Mantis as his sister gives Peter a glimmer of hope that he is not alone, he still has family left, and this, going forward, gives Peter quite a purpose in life knowing that he has his sister beside him while fighting for the universe.
