The Gears Of War Movie Hires A Writer

Video game adaptations outside of Castlevania might make most fans worried but there is some hope that Microsoft's upcoming Gears of War movie will be a good one. The games themselves don't have plots that light the world on fire so it shouldn't be too hard to adapt the third-person shooter into a Hollywood film. It looks like we're one step closer to getting that movie as a writer for the project has been hired.

According to The Wrap, Universal Studios has hired F. Scott Frazier to pen the movie's script. Sadly, his track record isn't too impressive as Frazier wrote xXx: The Return of Xander Cage and Collide, though they aren't the worst films in the world either. Still, if Marvel can hire a director or two that hasn't done much, Universal can do the same with writers.

Outside of this writer, no other news regarding this adaptation has been released. Drax star Dave Bautista has shown interest in playing lead character Marcus Fenix and it's not like he has a new Guardians of the Galaxy movie to shoot. Dylan Clark ("Planet of the Apes" series, "Oblivion") will produce for his Dylan Clark Productions alongside Gears of War co-creator Rod Fergusson. Scott Stuber ("Ted" series, "Identity Thief") will executive produce.

Currently, fans can play all of the Gears of War games on the Xbox One thanks to the console's backward compatibility. The most recent game, Gears of War 4, got solid reviews and Gears 5 was announced in E3.
