It's no secret to a lot of fans that the DC film franchise has long been struggling to produce box-office-generating films and with the exception of projects like Aquaman and Joker, the franchise hasn't been as profitable as Warner Bros. hoped it would be.

But it looks like 2023 will finally be the year that DC will be able to turn the tide once and for all and if the latest reports are to be believed, a divisive project could potentially lead to the franchise's ascension to the box office ranks.

According to a recent report from Variety, a number of Hollywood insiders are incredibly impressed with what they've seen from Ezra Miller's The Flash during the film's most recent test screenings. One critic even compared the Andy Muschietti-helmed film to the often-lauded The Dark Knight which boasts an Oscar under its belt.

The trade writes: "Director Andy Muschietti is hot off of the It movies, Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck are returning as Batman, and the plot hinges on time travel and multiverses, two of the hottest things going in superhero storytelling. Studio insiders haven't been this excited for Warner Bros. superhero movie since The Dark Knight movies. In fact, almost everything about The Flash points to a massive summer sensation. Almost."

If the film does end up becoming a box office triumph for WB Discovery, it'll be interesting to see if this changes the company's stand on the whole Ezra situation. It's worth noting that DC Studios reportedly has no plans to keep the controversial actor as the DCU's Scarlet Speedster but will that actually change?

The Flash is scheduled for release on June 23, 2023.
