In an interview with Esquire Middle East, The Flash director Andy Muschietti confirmed that Nicolas Cage will have a cameo appearance as Superman in the film. He called it a "dream" to work with the Oscar winner and hopes that they will work together again.

"Nic was absolutely wonderful. Although the role was a cameo, he dove into it," he said.

"I dreamt all my life to work with him. I hope I can work with him again soon."

Muschietti also talked about the actor's love for the character, "He is a massive Superman fan. A comic book fanatic."

There were rumors that surfaced around the web recently that Cage will be appearing as Superman in the film. Now, we finally have the confirmation that he is indeed going to show up to play the role that he almost played 25 years ago.

This will also mark Cage's second official time in the role as he previously voiced the Man of Steel in the 2018 animated film Teen Titans Go! To the Movies.

In case you might be wondering, Cage was supposed to play the Man of Steel during the '90s when Warner Bros. was developing a new Superman movie titled Superman Lives with Tim Burton attached to direct.

However, the project experienced production setbacks and creative differences between Burton and producer Jon Peters which led to the director exiting the project and the studio abandoning it after failing to find a new filmmaker.

Years after the project was canceled, photos of Cage's costume fitting as Superman start to surface online which prompted fans to wonder about what would have happened if the film moved forward.

The development of the project also became the subject of the 2015 documentary The Death of "Superman Lives": What Happened? directed by the late Jon Schnepp. Burton and Kevin Smith, who was initially hired to pen the script, were interviewed about the making of it.

Now, 25 years after the project was shelved, we can finally witness Cage's take as Superman in its full live-action form even if it's just a cameo appearance.

Fans will definitely look forward to other more surprises that they have in store besides Cage's now-confirmed appearance as an alternate version of the Man of Steel.
