While it may not be a big hit like Vinland Saga Season 2 or Tomo-chan Is a Girl!, the Winter 23 anime The Fire Hunter has become successful enough to be renewed for Season 2.

Following the Season 1 finale, the show’s Twitter account confirmed that The Fire Hunter Season 2 is official and will be in the works soon.

This should be a pleasant surprise to those who watch the series, especially as it has so far flown under the radar, meaning a Season 2 renewal wasn’t exactly on the cards.

The Fire Hunter Anime: A Hidden Gem With an Interesting Premise

Given that there wasn’t much hype for the series ahead of its release, The Fire Hunter isn’t really talked about much online. However, there are seasonal anime viewers who consider it one of Winter 23's hidden gems.

This is because the series has an interesting premise. Specifically, it is set in a future where humanity has become fearful of fire.

After years of war, human biology has changed so that anyone who goes near natural flame will spontaneously combust.

But humanity doesn’t die off thanks to a stone-like resource that was discovered which can produce light and steam.

The people that seek these stones in monster-infested forests are called fire hunters.

While it may seem like an anime original, it’s actually an adaptation of a manga by Rieko Hinata and Akihiro Yamada.

You’ll be forgiven for not knowing about it as it is published by Holp Shuppan, a lesser-known Japanese publisher.

What is well-known is its cast, as it features several popular voice actors. These include Saori Hayami (Yor Forger in Spy x Family) as Kira, as well as Maaya Sakamoto (Echidna in Re:Zero) as Akira.

After the series’ 10th and final episode, The Fire Hunter Season 2 was confirmed.

The announcement was made alongside a short video that shows clips from the first season.

Aside from the announcement, there’s not much info yet about the second season, though it’s likely that studio Signal.MD will return to animate Season 2.

Even if there’s no info yet, it’s still a surprise to see it get renewed this early.

After all, even Fall 22 heavy hitters like Chainsaw Man and Bocchi the Rock! have yet to get Season 2 announcements.

There’s no word yet on a release date for The Fire Hunter’s next season. But if you haven’t seen it yet, all 10 episodes of Season 1 are available now on Crunchyroll.
