It looks like Marvel is finally going to do something else with the Fantastic Four. Sure, giving them to Dan Slott is far from a bad idea since the writer has penned a number of classic stories before, but the writer has mostly been recycling old concepts with fresh takes. That's not a bad thing, but it does feel a bit too familiar if we're being honest (the series is still a blast though).
Well, Marvel.com has just announced that Mark Waid and Mattia de Iulis are working on an Invisible Woman mini-series, with the first issue coming out this July. This won't be your typical spin-off since Waid is going to show us a new side of Sue Storm, as the series will detail her past life as a SHIELD agent.
Sue being an agent of SHIELD might sound shocking to some, but Waid did reveal this during his short run on the SHIELD comic book that acted as a pseudo-Marvel Team-Up-style series. One of Sue's first missions was shown there and it's nice to see Waid follow that up with a mini-series. Here is hoping that the paperback includes that SHIELD issue.
This is definitely a fresh idea and it will be interesting to see how Waid makes all of this a part of the mainstream Marvel canon. The guy does love his comic book continuity, so this should be fun.
Invisible Woman #1 comes out this July.
