Marvel Television has finally announced the release date and official title for the highly anticipated The Punisher special presentation on Disney+.
Fans have been looking forward to seeing what's next for Frank Castle in the MCU following his return in the first season of Daredevil: Born Again last year. While he is going to be absent in the upcoming season, he will be appearing in the upcoming Disney+ special and Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which was teased in the first trailer last week.
When is The Punisher Special Presentation Coming Out?
Marvel Television announced that the Punisher one-hour special presentation titled Punisher: One Last Kill will be released on Disney+ on May 12.
Its release date comes one week after the second season finale of Daredevil: Born Again airs on May 5 and two months before the character makes his MCU big-screen debut in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
No trailer has been released yet, but a poster was already unveiled, which gave fans their early look at Bernthal's return as Frank Castle and its seemingly darker tone.
In response to a fan question on X, Daredevil: Born Again star Vincent D'Onofrio explained why Bernthal is not making an appearance in the second season of Daredevil: Born Again.
"If Jon [Bernthal] wasn't busy making his own hour long Punisher film and hangin with that insect we would have wanted him to join us in Season 2 for sure. Yet he had a wonderful opportunity to do the other projects, and I for one can't wait to see him in those," he wrote.
With the special's release this May, fans will now have an idea of what happened to Frank Castle while the events of the second season of Daredevil: Born Again are taking place.
What to Expect in Punisher: One Last Kill
So far, the plot details regarding Punisher: One Last Kill are still under wraps. It is expected to address the aftermath of Frank Castle breaking out of Kingpin's dungeon in the first season finale of Daredevil: Born Again.
Jon Bernthal is starring as Frank Castle/The Punisher. Jason R. Moore is expected to reprise his role of Curtis Hoyle from Netflix's The Punisher. The character, Ma Gnucci, is also reportedly making an appearance.
Reinaldo Marcus Green directed the one-hour special presentation. He co-wrote the script with Bernthal. This will mark the third MCU Special Presentation on Disney+, following Werewolf by Night and The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special.
