Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has confirmed what we all suspected regarding the period setting of The Fantastic Four.

Since the release of the concept art that announced the film's main cast, fans have speculated that the First Family's MCU debut might have a period setting due to its 1960s-style artwork and easter eggs about that era.

There have also been rumors that the film might not be set in the main MCU timeline, and will instead take place in a different universe. Marvel has been mum about the details of its setting until now.

Kevin Feige Confirms The Fantastic Four Will Have a Period Setting

In a recent interview on The Official Marvel Podcast, Feige confirmed that The Fantastic Four will have a period setting.

He also acknowledged the fan theories surrounding the film being part of a different universe, suggesting that the speculations might be true.

"It is a period film, and there was another piece of art we released with Johnny Storm flying in the air making a 4 symbol. There was a cityscape in that image," the Marvel Studios president explained.

"There were a lot of smart people who noticed that that cityscape didn't look exactly like the New York that we know or the New York that existed in the 60s in our world. Those are smart observations, I'll say."

While most of the plot details regarding the film are still under wraps, this is our first major confirmed scoop on what we can expect on the First Family's official MCU debut coming from the head of Marvel Studios himself.

It looks like the film will indeed harken back to the origins of the characters in the comics and it will be inspired by the earlier runs, unlike the Fox versions which have a more contemporary and darker take.

There are still a lot of questions regarding how Marvel will handle the property now that they are part of the MCU, but at the very least, we now have an official word that the heroes' adventure will be taking place in the past.

The Fantastic Four is slated for release in theaters on July 25, 2025.
