Marvel fans got their first look at The Falcon and the Winter Soldier when Disney+ dropped a teaser during the Super Bowl. In the clip, we see Anthony Mackie's Sam Wilson throw Captain America's shield, as the hero did before and as it turns out, it's not as easy as it looks.
Speaking with ComicBook.com, Mackie describes how it was like to throw the shield and his reaction upon seeing the footage. "I was surprised that they used me because you have a double, a dude that looks like you who's like a gymnast and he does all this stuff," he said. "That's when they're like, 'All right, Anthony, you do it.' And I'm like, 'Dude, you just saw what this dude did! How you gonna asked me to do that?'" The actor admits that he was pretty shocked when he saw that they actually used the footage of him throwing the shield instead of the double's in the trailer.
"That thing is heavy dude," Mackie continued. He said the shield weighs around 12 pounds, and carrying that on his arm all day, "after a while your shoulder just gives." That being said, there's more throwing sequences in the show, which Mackie thinks are "pretty cool."
As for the show itself, the actor says while there's only six episodes, it's "huge" and that it's a "massive undertaking." "You know, it's Marvel so the stories there the characters there, but those action set pieces are just as vast," he added.
