The Eternals Star Kumail Nanjiani Says Marvel Didn’t Use Much Green Screen For The Film

Marvel fans might be expecting a comic book movie like Marvel Studio's The Eternals to use a whole lot of special effects, but according to Kingo actor Kumail Nanjiani, the movie uses very little green screen.

Speaking in an interview on the New Hollywood podcast to help promote his upcoming Apple+ series, Little America, (via Cinema Blend), the Silicon Valley star talks about his work on the blockbuster movie and during his discussion with the podcasts' hosts, Nanjiani revealed an interesting detail about the production. Despite the obvious need for superhero effects in the comic book movie, Nanjiani says that the film's production used more practical sets and on-location shooting than a green screen.

"It looks beautiful and it's all mostly practical. Like we didn't do very much green screen at all," the actor told the podcast hosts.

This is an interesting direction for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Marvel films have always taken advantage of a green screen and computer technology. Now, it seems like The Eternals is going back to the basics. We can only wonder how exactly director Chloe Zhao is going to achieve a superhero effect without that much green screen on it.

We hope that less green screen won't mean that the film is going to feel less of a superhero film and more of a small independent movie. Let's cross our fingers and wait and see what happens to The Eternals.

Black Widow is set to kick off Phase 4 when it premieres on May 1, 2020. The Eternals will follow on November 6, 2020.
