What happened in Koikimo Finale Episode?

In KoikimoEpisode 12, You're Creepy, after the flower viewing that Ichika and Ryō had, he never called since and that really worried Ichika to the point that she had to ask Rio. Upon hearing that, Rio confronts her if she likes her brother. The scene jumps to Ichika having a conversation with her mother asking about the age gap and her mother tells her that she's 5 years younger than him. She advised Ichika, "maybe he'll wait ‘til you're an adult."

She musters all her courage to call Ryō and when she invited him on a date, he declined to say he's busy at work and that for the next few days, he might not be able to call her. Days after, Ichika goes out and she sees Ryō talking to another woman, thinking it might be about work.

Ichika and Rio went out to a fast-food chain and Ichika seems to be off with her thoughts. When asked about Ryō, Ichika was easily annoyed saying Rio was meddling too much. In her fit of rage, she tells Rio that she likes him but she's worried she might be someone who wouldn't match his need. Rio tells her upfront that she just lacks confidence.

Meanwhile, Ryō meets with Masuda at a restaurant and he revealed to him how he lied to Ichika turning her down when asked for a date, and how he is scared Ichika might really have feelings for him which is why he is backing off. He got some tough love from Masuda saying if he keeps running, Ichika could disappear.

At the train station, Ichika saw Ryō. She looks back on their memories and tells herself she can't run away from her feelings anymore. She chases Ryō and she lost sight of him and breaks down yelling his name and approaches him only to fall down the stairs. She confronts Ryō about why he avoids her and he replies that he was forcing his feelings on her and that he shouldn't be by her side yet there he is beside her.

Ichika slaps him on the face telling him he ignores her feelings and that he can't dictate what she feels. Ichika recalls the story of how they met, how she saved her from falling off the same stairs, and how she immediately called him creepy for asking in such a bold way as he was so straightforward. She tells him he gave her nothing but trouble and flaws but despite all that she loves him.

To Ichika's surprise, Ryō says he loves her back. They kiss at the station and he apologizes for avoiding her and thanks to her for chasing. She asks the question "will you wait for me until I'm an adult?" It startled Ryō but he said yes and that they can take all the time they need. Ichika informs Rio what happened and she was relieved.

The episode ends with Ryō leaving their house and he confronts his father telling him he will wait for Ichika until she's an adult. Despite the doubt of his father, he tells him he changed because Ichika was precious to him. His mother overheard it and tells the father "just like you."

What does the Koikimo Finale Episode mean?

Despite the manga series ending, the story has a possibility of continuing for another season as it could follow the story of Ichika and Ryō while he waits for her to be an adult. The ending was really cheesy and the confrontation scene seems to be a situation that could happen to literally anyone in this world. While it was quite predictable that they would end up together because of the build-up throughout the season, it was a relief to finally see them divulge their true feelings.

If you pursue something or someone from the beginning, don't stop especially when you feel that it's almost within your grasp. Be true to your feelings and stand up for them. These are wise messages that could be picked up from the ending of Koikimo. If you haven't seen it yet, it is available on Crunchyroll for free and for their premium access subscription of $9.99 a month, or $79.99 a year.
