Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight trilogy is widely regarded by many as the quintessential Batman film series and understandably so. The acclaimed director's "realistic" take on the caped crusader seemed like an odd direction for the franchise but somehow, it worked brilliantly and there's a reason why a lot of people are still celebrating its legacy.

There's no doubt that out of all the three films, 2008's The Dark Knight is always the one that generates the most buzz up until this day, and just recently, it had the entire internet talking.

Although it's not the first superhero film in existence, The Dark Knight definitely set the bar extremely high for comic book movies. Thanks to its intricate storytelling and a top-notch ensemble of stars, it's safe to say that The Dark Knight was the first film to prove that the superhero genre can be so much more than your regular superhero flick that uses a cookie-cutter formula. The fact that the film still holds up pretty well to this day is a testament to its legacy and whether fans would like to admit it or not, no other Batman film has come close, well, not yet, at least.
