The Daily Show Slams #BoycottstarwarsVII

Over the past three days, three Star Wars narratives spread online: the release of the third trailer for The Force Awakens, the implosion of ticketing sites when online sales for the film began, and the trending hashtag on Twitter called #BoycottStarWarsVII, originating from racists who have a problem with John Boyega playing a lead character named Finn in the film.

But last night, The Daily Show's host Trevor Noah took the time to discuss it, and in the process slammed down the argument that The Force Awakens represents "white genocide" in less than six minutes. When Noah brought in Senior Fantasy Culture Correspondent Jordan Klepper, he quickly brushed aside the racist controversy ("Diversity is great.") and got to more important things—like the "obscure fictional minutia that nerds could argue endlessly about online."

Watch him shut down the argument below:

The best part is when Klepper topped it off with this powerful truth: "Science fiction is powerful because it envisions a future for all of us. It's an allegory for the people we can become: one that encompasses a multitude of voices and perspectives."
