Fans will no longer see Michael Fishman as D.J. Conner in The Conners Season 5. The actor will leave the show after four seasons, though the door will always be open for his return.

According to reports, D.J.’s story arc will be addressed in The Conners Season 5. Now, in an interview, Fishman addresses his exit and reveals how the show has impacted his life.

Michael Fishman Leaves The Conners

People confirmed Fishman’s The Conners Season 5 exit in an official statement.

He said,

"It has been my honor to play D.J. Conner. It's every actors dream to be a series regular, especially on a groundbreaking show, where we tackle significant topics. The opportunity to do comedy and drama alongside iconic castmates, while reaching fans in meaningful ways has profoundly impacted my life. I am proud of the work I did as part of Roseanne and The Conners. Especially the privilege of playing a Military Veteran, Interracial Spouse, and the father of a Bi-racial child, portrayed by the amazing Jayden Rey.”

Aside from acting in front of the camera, Fishman also worked behind the scenes as a director.

He continued,

"I pride myself on professionalism, building lifelong connections and meaningful friends through production. Demonstrating my skills through the first few years of The Conners culminating in the opportunity to Direct Halloween and The Election vs. The Pandemic. That successful collaboration earned me four more opportunities as a Director last season. I achieved a dream with lifelong friends, propelling me toward another aspect of my career that comes with endless possibilities."

Michael Fishman Talks about the Next Chapter of His Life after The Connors

Though Fishman admitted that he would miss doing The Connors, he’s excited about what will come.

He added,

"While I wholeheartedly will miss Friday night tapings in front of our loyal audiences, alongside our amazing cast and crew, I am excited for the opportunities coming in the next chapter of my career.”

In fact, he revealed he’s now pitching a number of projects as a writer and negotiating his next directing opportunities.

He stated,

“Although I no longer have the privilege to portray D.J., my desire, passion, and skill of bringing characters to life as an actor continues. I appreciate all those who support and have supported my work.”

Michael Fishman’s Time in The Conners

Fishman was billed as a series regular for the entirety of The Conners Seasons 1 to 4. However, his character was only seen in 36 episodes out of the four seasons’ 71 episodes.

According to TVLine, he was more active behind the camera, directing a total of five episodes.

Fishman debuted as Roseanne (Roseanna Bar) and Dan Conner’s (John Goodman) son in Roseann Episode 2. He played the role when he was just six until he turned 15. He then reprised his role in the 2018 revival, The Conners.
