The Clone Wars Season Finale Subtly References The Rise of Skywalker

We already know that Star Wars: The Clone Wars Season 7 would be dropping prequel trilogy Easter eggs. However, it looks like the final episode of the animated series also made a subtle reference to Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

WARNING: The following contains spoilers from Star Wars: The Clone Wars Season 7 Episode 12. Proceed with caution.

In Victory and Death, Ahsoka Tano and Captain Rex needed to find a way to get out of the cruiser since every Clone Trooper was out for their blood. Although there was a shuttle they could use for their escape, Maul managed to hijack it amidst the chaos which, he points out to Ahsoka, was her idea in the first place.

Although Ahsoka almost plummeted to her death, she still managed to get back on her feet just in time to see Maul escaping on the shuttle. This is when she decides to use the Force to stop the shuttle from getting away.

It's a thinly veiled reference at one of the infamous scenes in The Rise of Skywalker where Rey tries to prevent a ship from escaping with the captive Chewbacca. However, there's a huge difference in Ahsoka's action. While Rey exerted all of her powers (and accidentally used Force lightning), Ahsoka chose to let Maul go so she could help Rex fight against the attack of the Clones.

It's a move that made sense because their survival is key. However, it was also symbolic of Ahsoka's story arc of ultimately letting go of everything; her duty, her connection to the Jedi, and of her decision not to hurt the Clones.

The final episode of Star Wars: The Clone Wars Season 7 is currently streaming on Disney+.
