The Clone Wars Season 7 Reveals Why Captain Rex isn't in Revenge of the Sith

We already know that the final season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars will lead directly to Revenge of the Sith. But why wasn't Captain Rex featured in the Star Wars prequel trilogy film? The latest episode of Season 7 has just revealed why Rex was nowhere to be found when it was time to execute Order 66.

WARNING: The following contains Star Wars: The Clone Wars Season 7 Episode 9 spoilers. Proceed with caution.

The new episode Old Friends, Not Forgotten was all about reunions. Ahsoka Tano finally met up with Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi for the first time since she left the Jedi Order. It's a reunion borne of desperation as Ahsoka called on the Republic to help in capturing Darth Maul and bringing an end to his reign of terror over Mandalore. However, it looks like this meeting is going to be brief.

Unfortunately, Anakin and Obi-Wan are unable to join Ahsoka in the fight against Maul. After all, they have a completely different mission that will send them off to deal with General Grievous. On the other hand, there's another reunion for Ahsoka and it's a more hopeful one. She finally gets to work with Rex all over again.

The episode confirmed that Ahsoka will lead her own Clones in the fight on Mandalore and she will be joined by Rex. This effectively confirms that both characters were away on Mandalore when Palpatine suddenly calls for Order 66.

It would make sense for Ahsoka and Rex to be together. After all, Rex had removed his chip sometime after the death of Fives. With his chip gone, this would explain why Ahsoka and Rex managed to return in Star Wars Rebels. We just have to find out how they fought their way out when Order 66 was executed.

The latest episode of Star Wars: The Clone Wars Season 7 is currently streaming on Disney+.
