It seems like it was filler week for The Case Study of Vanitas as Episode 7 was rather relaxed, focusing on character interactions and the (many) possible romantic routes we can expect to develop.

While not as emotionally poignant as other episodes, it was a fun episode to watch, though, I must say, it didn't paint Vanitas in the best light, nor made viewers trust him more. He's the savior of vampires but we don't way, and he's so emotionally immature and unpredictable that you can't tell what he's going to do next. Perhaps this will be one of the first cour's sustaining mysteries.

Waiting to find out? If so, we got you covered. In the sections below, you will find our handy guide to Vanitas no Karte Episode 8, including its release date and time, and a recap of the last episode!

The Case Study of Vanitas Episode 7 Recap

Vanitas no Karte is based on a manga of the same name and follows Noé, a young vampire in search of the Book of Vanitas. This grimoire was reportedly made by Vanitas, a vampire of the Blue Moon, who was despised by the vampires of the Red Moon - the traditional vampire society.

Noé meets a man named Vanitas, after the original creator of the grimoire, who claims to be a human doctor for vampires, using the book to heal them from the corruption of their true name, which makes them predators against their will. Noé and Vanitas join forces, but the first episode ends with Noé admitting that he had to kill Vanitas by the end of their joint journey.

The 24-episode anime will run in two cours of 12 episodes each.

Warning: Spoilers for Vanitas no Karte Episode 7!

The 6th episode of Vanitas no Karte is relaxed, with Noé, Vanitas, Domi, Jeanne, and Luca at Lord Ruthven's table, safe for once. The quiet tea time is disrupted when the party finds out that Jeanne has put her personal mark on Vanitas - a rose-like tattoo that is different for each vampire and used to mark the object of their lust.

Everyone is shocked to see this, but Vanitas defends Jeanne's dignity, saying that she marked him while hearing the sound of the malnomen dissonance, a time during which all vampires were driven to madness. A private conversation between the two reveals this is not the case, however. Jeanne is indeed attracted to Vanitas, which is troubling, given that he earlier kissed her without her consent.

Noé is jealous of Vanitas' obvious preference for Jeanne, as he lusts after Vanitas' blood too, and, to be honest, I wish this was something more than queer baiting, or a simple bro - not to say that Vanitas would be a good partner for anyone; it seems like his attraction to Jeanne comes down to the fact that she does not love him, even if she feels some degree of desire for him.

In any case, the episode does become queer coded, if not openly queer, when Domi shares a dance with Jeanne and Noé dances with Vanitas, asking him what love means. If anything, the episode reveals that Vanitas is very much not the person to ask this. His idea of love is twisted, if at all existent - but why?
