The Boys Season 2 has been considered controversial, not because the show has kept its violence and crass nature but due to the decision to release episodes weekly. This has oddly resulted in review-bombing for fans who aren't patient, which is unfortunate since the show still has a ton of its redeeming qualities from the previous season. Many assumed that Amazon made this decision since they saw how successful The Mandalorian's weekly schedule was but that isn't the case.
Interestingly enough, The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke told Collider that he and other producers of this show made that decision. Why? Apparently, they feel that bingeing shows is sort of like a sugar rush and people don't really get anything from the show by watching all of it at once. We do not know if anyone is going to buy that reason but it's not a bad one.
People burn through it in a week or two. There's an intense amount of activity and then it sort of fades, and then everyone's kind of off to the next thing. There's so many great moments in season 2, we want to give it time to marinate so people can reflect on it and talk about it before they move on to the next thing and maybe just be in the conversation a little bit longer. I think a little anticipation for the fans is healthy, I think it helps the experience.
Kripke makes a good point and it's probably why The Mandalorian has done so well. Plus, waiting weekly gets fans more pumped up about each episode that comes out, though, realistically, they can just wait for all the episodes to come out then binge it. Whatever the case, it's not the worst decision ever and fans need to calm down and stop review-bombing things.
