There's a lot of excitement right now for the third season of The Boys which will continue the bonkers and zany adventure of the titular team in the world where superheroes are owned by a corporation as promised by the teaser trailer that was released a few days ago. Now, as we wait for the third season, it looks like the series is already getting another installment as revealed by one of its stars.
Speaking to Variety recently at the South by Southwest Festival, Karl Urban, who plays Billy Butcher in the series, revealed that a fourth season is already underway and he also shared when it will begin production. "I’m shooting The Boys through the end of the year," he said. We do have to take note that Amazon Prime Video hasn't formally announced a renewal yet for the fourth season, but given that Urban himself revealed the information, we can assume that is very likely to be true.
It is wonderful to hear that the series has already given a fourth season order ahead of the third season premiere this June. It just shows that Amazon is very happy with the performance of the show and what they've seen so far with the third season. It also means that the writers can now work for the fourth season and plan the storyline without waiting for the response on the third season later this year.
It's also not surprising that The Boys might have already been given a fourth season renewal since the series is one of the huge hits in the service and has also already spawned a franchise with the animated anthology series Diabolical and the currently-in-the-works untitled YA spinoff that will be set in college. There is also no endgame in sight yet for the series so a fourth season is really very likely even without a third season being aired yet.
Of course, we still have to wait for the third season first and find out what they have in store before we get excited about the fourth season. All we know is that they will feature the comic's most popular storyline, "Herogasm," which promises that we will get yet again another bonkers season.
