We open in Mos Pelgo, where Cobb Vanth (Timothy Olyphant) approaches a group of Pykes who are attempting to smuggle spice through the town. After warning them to "Think it through" twice, Vanth is left with no choice but to gun down all but one of the Pykes. He warns the survivor to leave, and then empties a box of spice into the sand.

So, we're back on Tatooine! But if you think that means we'll be returning to Boba Fett (Temuera Morrison), think again, because after the episode's title card, we instantly cut to Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) who's flying his new N-1 Starfighter through space, before setting down on a planet covered in beautiful forest valleys.

After exiting his ship, he meets R2-D2, and asks him where Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) is, and then tells him he's here to see Grogu. R2 leads him through the forest, and Din Djarin discovers several construction droids gathering large stones from the forest and building a hut at the top of a hill, which looks a lot like the buildings on Ahch-To in The Last Jedi.

We then find Grogu meditating with Luke Skywalker. But Grogu is distracted when he sees a frog-creature. Then, Luke collects several of them and uses the Force to make them all float. Luke talks to Grogu about Yoda and asks him if he can remember anything from his time back home, and upon focusing, Grogu recalls Order 66 at the Jedi Temple on Coruscant.

Din Djarin is approached by Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson), who tells him that the building at the top of the hill will be a school for the Jedi, and that Grogu will be the first student. Din Djarin presents a gift that he has for Grogu, but Ahsoka dissuades him from meeting with Grogu, warning that attachment will distract the youngling from his training.

Din Djarin reluctantly leaves in his ship, which Grogu appears to sense. We then cut to a series of training montages, during which, like Yoda, Grogu acts as a 'backpack' to Luke Skywalker while he runs and jumps through the forest. Luke even tries to get Grogu to jump, but to no avail. He tells the youngling, "Through the Force you will find balance".

Luke then presents a combat training remote, which Grogu manages to destroy using the Force. Luke speaks with Ahsoka, telling him he knew that the Mandalorian was recently there. Ahsoka says, "The two share a strong bond". "What should I do about him [Grogu]?" Luke asks her. Ahsoka replies, "Trust your instincts."

Before Ahsoka leaves, Luke asks her if he'll ever see her again, to which Ahsoka simply replies, "Perhaps. May the Force be with you." Finally, we return to Boba Fett's palace on Tatooine, where Din Djarin arrives to find Boba, Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen), the Mod Gang, and Black Krrsantan making plans to take down the Pyke Syndicate.

"We need foot soldiers," Fennec says. Din Djarin responds, saying "I might be able to help with that." As he flies across the deserts of Tatooine, a group of Jawas recognize him and wave from the ground. Din Djarin meets with Cobb Vanth, and asks him if he and his townspeople will help Boba take down the Pykes, who threaten all of Tatooine.

Vanth graciously declines, not wanting to drag his people into war, but as soon as Din Djarin leaves, a stranger from the desert arrives in town, who is revealed to be bounty hunter Cad Bane from the hit animated show Star Wars: The Clone Wars, as well as Star Wars: The Bad Batch. Bane tells Vanth that he will pay him double what Boba will pay if he joins the Pykes.

However, Bane executes Vanth and one of his deputies. Meanwhile, at the Garza Sanctuary in Mos Espa, a group of Pykes are behaving suspiciously. As soon as they leave the club, it explodes behind them, seemingly killing everyone inside. We return to Luke and Grogu on the forest planet, where Luke gives Grogu the gift from Din Djarin.

It is revealed to be chain-mail armor made from beskar. Luke then brandishes Yoda's lightsaber, and gives Grogu a choice: if he chooses the armor, he will return to Din Djarin but will not become a Jedi; but if he chooses the lightsaber, Luke will continue to train him to become a Jedi for many years.

However, Luke warns him that, should he choose to remain in training, that he may never see Din Djarin again, that "a short time for [Grogu] is a lifetime for someone else," as Grogu ages roughly ten times slower than humans. A hesitant Grogu looks up at Luke, and before he makes a decision, the episode finishes.

So what does all of this mean? Well, it certainly looks like Grogu may very well return to Din Djarin's care. After all, that empty Astromech pod on his new N-1 Starfighter looks pretty deliberate, unless of course, a new "Child" is due to appear in the show. But there appears to be so much emphasis placed on Grogu that this just seems so unlikely.

Another question that will no doubt be on the minds of many is why The Book of Boba Fett has suddenly turned into The Mandalorian Season 3. While fans aren't complaining about seeing Din Djarin back in the fold, as well as Ahsoka Tano, Luke Skywalker, and R2-D2, it does beg to question why Disney and Lucasfilm aren't placing much faith in Boba Fett.

This is The Book of Boba Fett, yet it's as though Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni don't trust the spin-off series to stand on its own two legs. Nevertheless, these last two episodes have been pretty thrilling. It's just difficult to see where things will lead. Will the Jedi end up helping Boba Fett take down the Pykes, or will it be an all-out war on Tatooine?
