The Blacklist Season 9 will premiere in just two weeks, and we've got a theory that could keep you preoccupied until then.

In The Blacklist Season 8, Elizabeth "Liz" Keen (Megan Boone) was killed off even before she found out the truth about her partner, Raymond "Red" Reddington (James Spader).

But even though Liz will no longer be part of The Blacklist Season 9, this doesn't mean that the truth about who Red is and his true intentions for working with Liz won't be revealed.

Are Red and Katarina Rostova One And The Same Person?

On Reddit, several fans have become convinced that Red was hired by Liz's mom, Katarina Rostova (Laila Robins). And since Red has assumed multiple characters throughout the first eight seasons of The Blacklist, it's possible that he also took on the role of Liz's mother.

If this theory is correct, this would explain why Red wanted to only work with Liz at the beginning of The Blacklist.

In one of the flashback scenes from the series, it was revealed that Liz's mom worked as a spy before she got into a relationship with Liz's dad, the real Raymond Reddington.

As such, there is a possibility that Liz's mom is still alive, and she was the one that hired Red to watch over her daughter.

This theory also somehow explains why Red was very protective of Red and why he was devastated when she was killed.

Where Is Red's Mysterious Letter?

In The Blacklist Season 8, Red was supposed to give Liz a letter from her mother. He said that it would explain everything about his real identity.

Unfortunately, Liz never found out the truth about Red because she was shot during The Blacklist Season 8 finale.

However, this could also mean that Red would come clean about his real identity and share his mysterious letter with someone else.

Donald Ressler Will Struggle In The Blacklist Season 9

Other than Red, Liz's romantic interest, Donald Ressler (Diego Klattenhoff) will also struggle following her death.

Leaked photos from the set of The Blacklist Season 9 show a disheveled Ressler, who is still dealing with the death of Liz.

Even though the hit NBC series will feature a two-year time jump, it seems that Ressler is still not over Liz's untimely demise.

There are also predictions suggesting that Ressler will try to avenge Liz from the people behind her death. And a deleted scene from The Blacklist Season 8 suggests that this may indeed be the case.

In the scene, Ressler was at the hospital after he was shot. He ordered Chinese food, but the nurse told him that he can't have it. But when Ressler asked the nurse if he could have the fortune cookie instead, she said yes.

When Ressler opened the fortune cookie, he read the note inside.

"A faithful friend is a strong defense," it read.

And according to Cheat Sheet, this suggests that Ressler will do something for his late partner in The Blacklist Season 9.

When Will The Blacklist Season 9 Premiere?

The Blacklist Season 9 will premiere on NBC on Thursday, Oct. 21 at 8 p.m. ET.

Even though NBC hasn't confirmed the total number of episodes this season, there are predictions that there will be 22 installments.

The network already dropped the title for The Blacklist Season 9 Episode 1 and it's "The Skinner." However, the network still hasn't unveiled any information about the premiere episode.

Is There A Trailer For The Blacklist Season 9?

Even though The Blacklist Season 9 is just two weeks away, NBC still hasn't released an official trailer for the hit crime drama.

But our gut feel tells us that a trailer from The Blacklist Season 9 will be coming very soon.
