With Avengers 4 marking the end of an era for Marvel, the studio is gearing up for a whole new roster of movies for Phase 4. One of those films is said to focus on Black Widow, and a synopsis has been going around for the film just recently. As it turns out, that description comes from an old script and isn't likely going to be the focus of the eventual film.
Speaking to Discussing Film (via HN Entertainment), writer/director David Hayter said this about the Black Widow synopsis, "…And somebody just put out a synopsis of the upcoming film based on my script because it was essentially an origin story but they basically described what my logline was."
For context, here's the synopsis going around online:
"At birth, the Black Widow (aka Natasha Romanova) is given to the KGB, which grooms her to become its ultimate operative. When the U.S.S.R. breaks up, the government tries to kill her as the action movies to present-day New York, where she is a freelance operative. The standalone film will find Romanoff living in the United States 15 years after the fall of the Soviet Union."
For now, Marvel has hired Jac Shchaeffer to write the script for Black Widow, and it looks like it will be a long way before the cameras start rolling. Then again, the story might not be entirely different from Hayter's original plans. Rumor has it that it would be a period piece, and there's a possibility that Sebastian Stan would reprise his role as the Winter Soldier. Granted that Natasha was the only one who knew about him in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, it would make sense that she would have a run-in with him earlier in her career.
No release date has been announced for the Black Widow movie.
